Some of the highlights of the club have been helping to establish the Findlay Club in 1928 and the Sidney Club in 1943. Members helped the WWII effort by assisting the Red Cross, selling War Bonds and sponsoring Nurse’s Aide classes. A gala celebration was held to mark the 50th anniversary of Altrusa International of Marion that included a presentation of the Key of Service by the Mayor. Plans are underway to celebrate our 80th anniversary in 2005. The club newsletter, the “Blotter” began in 1940. Programs have varied from a speech from an Ohio Senators wife, financial planning for today’s women, to touring the historic Palace Theatre. Members have held many District Offices as well as International Offices. Currently, Maureen Welch serves as our International Treasurer. The Club has had representation at most District Conferences as well as many International Conferences. Money-making projects have varied over the years with the selling of pecans, Coons candy, cookbooks and Altrusa logo items. Members have participated in the redemption of Sales Tax Stamps, bake sales, garage sales and Christmas boutique sales. The
Service Projects have been numerous and varied over the years, including Mittens for Moppets, Mobile Meals, Palace Theatre Restoration, RX Marion, Newspapers in Education, and American Red Cross Stereothon. Today’s diverse group of women continues to uphold the ideals of Altrusa through their sharing of time, talent and financial support. They also continue the spirit of good will and friendliness… the ideals of the charter members.
